Radical Georgia Moderate: Johnson, Republicans suffer from irony deficiency

Johnson, Republicans suffer from irony deficiency
by Rusty Tanton | www.radicalgeorgiamoderate.org | bio | Georgia Podcast Network Audio File

Taking the lead from his federal GOP counterparts, state Senate President Pro Tempore Eric Johnson is threatening to demonstrate a total lack of irony comprehension. Before I discuss Senator Johnson's pending transgression, let's review some recent examples set by the national Grand Old Party:

  • Voting to build a fence between the U.S. and Mexico barely a year after passing CAFTA
  • Suspension of habeas corpus under the pretense of defending freedom
  • Appointing a pederast to chair the Congressional Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus
It reads like deleted scenes from Dr. Strangelove, doesn't it? Gentlemen! There's no fighting in here! This is the war room! Now that we've got some background on what inspires his policy, let's move on to Senator Johnson. He said recently that if the courts strike down the on-again, off-again Voter ID law, he will propose it be passed as a constitutional amendment in the next Legislative session. Which means the decision would ultimately come down to a popular vote. So, he proposes that we solve a problem with fraudulent IDs being presented in popular elections by putting a constitutional amendment up for a vote in... wait for it... a popular election!

Let there be no doubt that Senator Johnson has what it takes to run for the U.S. Congress. I propose a constitutional amendment to require irony comprehension training for all Republican state legislators.
