Gubernatorial Candidate Austin Scott Completes 1,050-mile Walk of Georgia

Atlanta, GA — State Representative Austin Scott (R-Tifton), a candidate for Governor of Georgia in 2010, will complete his 1,050-mile Walk of Georgia tour on Saturday, August 29th at approximately 10 a.m. The walk will conclude with remarks from Representative Scott on the Washington Street steps of the State Capitol.

“This is as grassroots as it gets,” said Scott. “The other candidates are all talking but we're literally walking the walk--showing commitment, persistence, and that we have a perspective no other candidate can have in this race.”

To prove that he is willing to go the extra mile as Governor, Scott is walking across the State, often through communities that no other statewide candidate has visited before. He has walked the entire distance on foot and spends his nights in hotels, an RV, and in private homes. Scott plans to build his campaign platform around the concerns expressed by Georgians he has met on the trip.

During the next four days, Scott will progress southward from Lumpkin County while making his way toward the State Capitol via Cumming, Alpharetta, Roswell and Sandy Springs. According to preliminary research by Scott For Georgia, Representative Scott’s Walk of Georgia is the longest walk ever undertaken by an American politician.“I believe my campaign promises are a covenant with the voters of Georgia,” said Scott.

Austin Scott is a Republican from Tifton who has served House District 153 for the last 14 years. He is chairman of the House Governmental Affairs Committee. He also serves as a member of the Rules Committee, Way and Means Committee, and Appropriations Committee.
