Emory Law to Host Lecture on Counterterrorism

ATLANTA -- Emory Law's International Humanitarian Law Clinic will host a lecture titled, “Counterterrorism and the Dilemma of the Decision Maker: U.S. Challenges in Afghanistan and Israeli Experiences,” with Amos Guiora at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, in the law school's Tull Auditorium.

The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Consulate General of Israel and the Emory Jewish Law Students Association.

Guiora, professor of law at the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah, teaches criminal law, criminal procedure, international law, global perspectives on counterterrorism and religion and terrorism. He has published extensively on issues related to national security, religion and terrorism, limits of interrogation and limits of power.

A retired lieutenant colonel, Guiora served 19 years in the Israel Defense Forces Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He held a number of senior command positions, including commander of the IDF School of Military Law, judge advocate for the Navy and Home Front Command and legal adviser to the Gaza Strip.

After the lecture, Guiora will sign copies of his latest book, "Freedom from Religion: Rights and National Security."
