United Ways of Georgia to hold reception honoring
Georgia lawmakers and the role of United Ways
in meeting human service needs

Remarks from Beverly “BJ” Walker, commissioner, GA Department of Human Services, on the new human service customer

What: On Monday, January 25, the United Ways of Georgia, Inc., the association for all 36 United Ways across the state, will host its fourth annual reception at the historic Freight Depot to honor Georgia lawmakers and the role of United Ways in meeting community human service needs.

The recession that began in 2007 continues to affect the fortunes of all Georgians. Many who had never before experienced need have been forced to seek help for the first time in this post-welfare reform era. United Ways are committed to meeting the critical needs of their communities while focusing on a brighter future for every Georgian through education, health, and earnings as well as by eliminating homelessness.

Join us on January 25 and hear from Georgia Department of Human Services Commissioner Beverly “BJ” Walker. Commissioner Walker will offer remarks on these new human service customers and their implications for the government, charity and business.

When: Monday, January 25, 2010, 5 – 7 p.m.

Where: Georgia Freight Depot, The Blue Room, 65 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, SW Atlanta, GA 30303

Interview and photo opportunities are available. For more information, contact Malika White at 404.527.7206 or mwhite@unitedwayaltanta.org.
