Tax system overhaul emerges in state Capitol

Travis Fain reports that with the budget crisis continuing to squeeze state government, the effort to overhaul Georgia’s tax system is on again. This time, a committee of economists, business leaders and politicians would gather to review the state’s entire tax system and suggest changes.

Emory University School of Law will host a debate featuring Georgia’s candidates for attorney general at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at the law school, 1301 Clifton Rd. At the Attorney General Candidate Forum, co-sponsored by the Fulton County Daily Report, candidates will take questions from an audience of lawyers, judges and law students, as well a panel from the Daily Report and Emory Law faculty. The candidates are Democrat Ken Hodges, Republican Sam Olens, and Libertarian Don Smart. This will be the first forum for the candidates since the primaries.
