Tax Policy Symposium Set at Emory Law

ATLANTA -- Emory University School of Law will host the second annual Tax Policy Symposium: Tax Policy and the Impact of Health Care Reform at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at the St. Regis Hotel in Atlanta.
The event, co-sponsored by Emory’s Goizueta Business School and Rollins School of Public Health, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP and BDO, focuses on the impact of health care reform legislation and tax policy proposals on U.S. business.
David Walker, former U.S. comptroller general and head of the Government Accountability Office, will deliver the keynote address. Key policymakers and staffers will serve as panelists, including Eric Solomon, former assistant secretary (tax policy) for the U.S. Department of the Treasury; John Buckley, chief tax counsel for the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means; Cathy Koch, chief tax counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance; Mark Prater, deputy chief of staff/chief tax counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance; and Josh Odintz, acting tax legislative counsel for the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
Guest panelists also will include business executives from Home Depot, International Paper Company, Kaiser Permanente and Mercer University, as well as Emory faculty.
“The pending health care reform legislation and tax policy proposals affect businesses of all sizes in all industries,” says A. James Elliott, associate dean of external affairs and professor of law at Emory Law. “This event will be extremely valuable in providing businesses with greater perspective on the direction of U.S. health care reform and tax policy and its practical implications on U.S. business.”
